​"Okay, I get it. Not everyone enjoys exercise as much as I do, and not everyone wants to lift weights. But there are so many reasons why everyone should!
Some of the benefits of a consistent resistance training program include:
  • 🏹maintaining muscle mass as we age
  • 🏹mood elevation!!! Lifting weights boosts those mood busting hormones, and for some can be a great tool to combat stress and anxiety
  • 🏹it strengthens your muscles and joints, meaning we are more functional across the age continuum (think about trying to get up out of a chair, or get up off of the floor, or carry a heavy sack of groceries into the house from the car)
  • 🏹resistance training stimulates bone growth and helps to fight the effects of age related osteoporosis
  • 🏹it helps your body to burn excess fat stores and helps with weight loss and management
  • 🏹it improves your cardiovascular health
According to the American College of Sports Medicine guidelines, each major muscle group should be trained 2-3 days per week, with a special focus on multi joint movements. Why? Because that is how we move in life! Intensity varies based on an individuals age and other general health considerations, but we can reap the benefits of strength and resistance training at ANY age!"

    Ellen de Werd is a renowned fitness industry leader with over 25 years of experience in group fitness. A 2024 and 2025 IDEA Group Fitness Instructor of the Year Award nominee, she is the visionary creator behind the WARRIOR formats—dynamic, license-free programs now taught in 14 countries. Through her company, Ellen empowers group fitness professionals with smart, fun, and original content designed to inspire and elevate their classes. She is also the host of the Confessions of a GroupX Instructor podcast, a Legacy Lululemon Ambassador, and an active instructor based in Eugene, Oregon.
    Outside the studio, Ellen enjoys family time, watercolor painting, listening to classical music, and spending time with her beloved whippet and bengal cat.​
